Terms of Service

Welcome to Mappu (the "Application"). The Application is owned and operated by Pegasus Coders LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Application, you ("user" or "you") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not download, install, or use the Application.

1. Eligibility and license

• Age requirement. You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Application.
• Grant of license. We grant you a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to download, install, and use the Application strictly for your personal, non-commercial use on a device that you own or control. Your use is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained the Application from — the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions on iOS, or the Google Play Terms of Service on Android.

2. Pricing, subscriptions, and data storage

• Free to use. The Application is free to download and use. The core features — viewing the map, tapping a place, and getting its MapCode — are available at no charge on both iOS and Android. The free version is supported by advertising.
• Mappu Pro (Android only). On Android, an optional auto-renewing subscription called "Mappu Pro" unlocks Google Maps search and removes advertisements. It is offered as a monthly or yearly plan at the price shown in Google Play. Payment is charged to your Google Play account upon confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your Google Play account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and partial periods are not refunded except where required by law or by Google Play policy. Billing, renewals, and refunds are handled by Google Play, not by us. The iOS version has no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
• Accounts. No account is required to use the Application. On Android, you may optionally sign in with your Google account to enable Favorites sync; this creates a sync account with us that you can delete at any time in the app (see our Privacy Policy and Account & Data Deletion page). We never receive your Google password.
• Saved locations. The Application saves your favorites locally on your device. On iOS, favorites can also sync through Apple iCloud (CloudKit), subject to Apple's own iCloud Terms and Conditions. On Android, favorites can optionally sync through a cloud database we operate (Google Firebase) when you sign in with your Google account. See our Privacy Policy for details.

3. Safe use and driver responsibility

• Traffic law compliance. Compliance with local traffic laws, road regulations, visible street signs, and safe driving practices remains entirely your responsibility. Distracted driving is highly dangerous and a violation of local laws.

4. MapCode accuracy disclaimer

• Informational purposes only. MapCodes, geographical coordinates, routing indicators, and location data provided by the Application are strictly for general informational purposes.
• No guarantee of accuracy. We do not warrant or guarantee the absolute accuracy, completeness, safety, or timeliness of any location data or MapCode translations. Real-world conditions (including but not limited to road closures, construction, weather, or localized mapping updates in Japan) may vary significantly from the data displayed in the Application. Always cross-reference and verify coordinates before beginning your drive.

5. Third-party services and infrastructure

• Integrated services. The Application relies on third-party services, including Google AdMob (advertisements), Google Firebase (sign-in, favorites sync, crash logging, and analytics), Google Play Billing (the Mappu Pro subscription on Android), Google Maps Platform and Apple Maps (maps and search), and OpenStreetMap-based map data. It also uses servers we operate to serve map tiles and search results, as described in our Privacy Policy.
• Limitation of control. You acknowledge and agree that these third-party services operate under their own independent terms and privacy policies. We hold no control over, and assume no liability for, the performance, uptime, data-handling practices, transmission speeds, or technical glitches of these external services or their software.

6. Intellectual property

The Application, including its name, logo, icon, design, and code, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to our trademarks. "MapCode" is a trademark of its respective owner; we use it descriptively to refer to the location-encoding standard the Application helps you look up.

7. Disclaimer of warranties ("As-Is")

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED TO YOU ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.

WE HEREBY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE APPLICATION, EITHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD-PARTY RIGHTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE OPERATION OF THE APPLICATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.

8. Limitation of liability (hard cap)

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PEGASUS CODERS LLC BE LIABLE FOR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE (INCLUDING VEHICULAR ACCIDENTS), OR ANY INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER. THIS INCLUDES, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA LOSS, DEVICE DAMAGE, BATTERY DEGRADATION, HARDWARE FAILURE, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APPLICATION, HOWEVER CAUSED, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE).

WE ARE EXPLICITLY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY SYNC FAILURES, DATA LOSS, CORRUPTION, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS YOUR SAVED LOCATIONS CAUSED BY APPLE ICLOUD OR CLOUDKIT (ON IOS), OR FOR ANY OUTAGE, BILLING ISSUE, OR SERVICE INTERRUPTION OF GOOGLE PLAY, GOOGLE MAPS, OR ANY OTHER THIRD-PARTY OR HOSTING SERVICE THE APPLICATION RELIES ON.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES EXCEED THE AMOUNT OF FIFTY DOLLARS ($50.00 USD). THIS LIMITATION WILL APPLY EVEN IF THE ABOVE-STATED REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.

9. App store terms (Apple and Google)

These Terms are concluded solely between you and us, not with the app store you obtained the Application from. We, not the store, are solely responsible for the Application and its content, and for providing any maintenance and support; the store has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support.

• Apple (iOS). If you obtained the Application from the App Store, you acknowledge and agree that Apple Inc. and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary thereof.
• Google (Android). If you obtained the Application from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the Application.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, U.S.A., without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms will be brought exclusively in the courts located in California.

11. Changes to terms

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. Any changes will be made available inside the Application, on our App Store or Google Play listing, or on this page. Your continued use of the Application after revised Terms are posted means that you accept and agree to the changes.
